Sunsets in Old San Juan
I went on a trip to Puerto Rico with a couple of my New York friends, and am excited to finally have them ready to show you! This is from the first day we landed in San Juan. While the others were taking a nap in our Airbnb, Jack and I went out on a stroll along the north shore to enjoy the cooling temperatures and see the sunset.
Originally a Spanish colonial port city, the north shore is fortified by a citadel called Castillo San Felipe del Morro, that was built in the 16th century. While we didn't go inside that day because it was after hours, we still enjoyed walking along the fortifications and exploring the watch towers that line the coast. I couldn't help but imagine what it would've been like as a Spaniard fighting off naval ships for over four hundred years before Puerto Rico eventually became a U.S. territory. Watching the sun set in vibrant colors over the ocean was truly breathtaking, and a warm welcome on our first visit to the island.
When I was packing for this trip, I definitely kept the hot, tropical weather in mind. For this evening outfit, I went for a more casual interpretation of the classic LBD, with a black shirt and skirt to mimic the look. There's something about an all-black ensemble that always makes me feel a little more dressed up and polished. And while the LBD is so great for many occasions, there's something to be said about the comfort of a tee shirt and skirt that is so great for travel. Nevertheless, the see-through lace details on the shirt keep the look from being overly casual, while the red fedora works as a nice accent to bring a pop of color to the outfit. And these Zara sandals were so comfortable I ended up wearing them almost every day that I was in the city.
