At The Broad
Downtown LA has been undergoing a revival in the past few years, and the addition of beautiful, modern architecture like the Broad Museum just makes things even better. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler, the concept behind the design of the building is a two-part relationship called the "veil and vault." The veil encompasses the public exhibition space on the first and second floors, and the central vault stores the collections not on display. Rather than being hidden from sight, the vault penetrates through the center of the building with viewing windows into the storage, while also serving as a means of transport from floor to floor via a tunnel-like escalator. The veil is concentric to the vault and composed of public areas such as the exhibition galleries, libraries, theatre, and a gift shop, with a parametric skin that serves as skylights into the space.
In addition to the incredible architecture is the exceptional contemporary art in its permanent collection, including work by renown artists such as Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Yayoi Kusama, Ellsworth Kelly, Kara Walker, and many more. There are also rotating exhibitions like the amazing Cindy Sherman retrospective that ended earlier this month. If you ever make your way to DTLA, make sure to stop by the Broad and experience its amazing art and architecture!
In keeping with the monochromatic building, I wore a black and white outfit from head to toe. I l love the ease of this halter top jumpsuit (that really looks like a two-piece) from Zara. The warm LA weather helps me get away with baring my shoulders, and so the bold red lipstick is perhaps my only indication that we're in the middle of fall. While I'm absolutely loving the changing leaves, LA always keeps me confused about the changing seasons.
