Black & Gold in Silverlake

Loving the shoulder beadwork on this shirt by Urban Outfitters

Statement necklaces to elevate any button up shirt

Fringe booties from Zara are so fun to walk in!

Black and gold is all about dark glamour and glitz, and when I saw this graffiti wall in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, I fell madly in love. Inspired by the black and gold of the graffiti, I incorporated the colors into my outfit and jewelry. If anyone knows the name of the street artist, please let me know so I can give them credit for their beautiful work.

Fall weather is tricky in LA because it gets chilly in the mornings and evenings, but warms up during the day. I like to throw on a jacket or large sweater in the mornings so I can keep warm until I need to shed the extra layer in the afternoon. Saying I have a huge weakness for sweaters is really an understatement. The number of sweaters I own outnumber any other clothing item type (e.g. pants, shirts, dresses) in my closet. I like to blame it on necessity for all the years I've lived in NYC, but my subconscious tells me it's because oversized sweaters are the closest thing to a snuggly blanket I can get while I'm away from my bed.

When it comes to sweaters, I often size up two sizes or more like this cozy knit sweater from Urban Outfitters. The slouchy fit also works as a sweater dress when paired with a skirt and collared shirt. Wearing black or otherwise darker colors underneath a large sweater helps keep the look from being frumpy or boxy, with their slimming effect. Contrast the top heavy ensemble by elongating your legs with ankle booties to give the illusion of height. These fringe booties from Zara are so fun to wear as they swish swish around with every step. Fringe just makes everything more fun, don't you agree?

Do you have any tips for dressing in the cooler weather without compromising style? I'd love to know your thoughts in the comments below!
