Although it's been a few months since her passing, I wanted to honor French fashion designer Sonia Rykiel with a tribute post. While some designers design clothes or products, other designers, like the iconic Coco Chanel, or the late Sonia Rykiel, leave behind a legacy of female empowerment. Their designs weren't merely clothes you put on your back, but represented a movement to embrace the female body, and the woman in all her complexities, from working woman to lover to mother to wife. Rykiel made her mark in the fashion world in the 60s as a designer for the everyday woman. She celebrated the female body in all its forms, from practical yet flattering knitwear such as the "poor boy" sweater, to form-fitting maternity wear, and on to accessories and fragrances. Rykiel's designs represented more than the French "no-fuss" style (which I love), but a vision to allow fashion to equip, liberate, and embrace the modern woman.

I wore this beautiful dress from the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel line. I love this take on the shirt dress, with its bold, yet minimal details in the black pockets and waist tie. One of my favorite color combinations this fall has been army green and black. The color army green evokes strength, utilitarianism, and of course military chic. I love the juxtaposition of the masculine colors to the femininity of the dress and these amazing lace up boots by Giuseppe Zanotti.
